AMSTERDAM — All surgical operations in the Havenziekenhuis in Rotterdam were cancelled on Tuesday due to a mosquito infestation.

The mosquitoes have been spotted flying around the hospital's two operating rooms.

The hospital wants to investigate where the insects are coming from before starting operations again. All operations have been re-scheduled to other days.

The Havenziekenhuis said the mosquitoes have not posed an infection risk up until now.

But it said the presence of the mosquitoes does not meet health standards for operating rooms, where instruments must be kept sterile.
