THE NETHERLANDS -- A study conducted by the Dutch Centre for Addiction Research has found that people of Moroccan and Turkish origin who gamble are between three and 11 times more likely to be addicted than gamblers of Dutch origin.

The study also reports that 36 percent of Moroccan and Turkish gamblers have debts, compared to 18 percent of Surinamese and Antilleans. The number of Dutch and Chinese gamblers with debts is five percent.

Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin has sent the results of the study to parliament.
