Vegetables and fruit in Dutch supermarkets contain too many traces of pesticides. The AD reports that this has emerged from figures from the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. Bell peppers, aubergines and lettuce score particularly poorly. Mushrooms, white cabbage and red beets on the other hand show low levels of pesticides. Among fruit, mandarins, grapes and apples contain the highest levels and kiwis, mangos and plums the lowest.

Cognac is becoming popular among a younger audience. The drink now has a cool and trendy reputation because of publicity from American rappers Busta Rhymes and P. Diddy in their hit "Pass the Courvoisier", De Pers writes. A record number of bottles of cognac were sold last year. It is selling particularly well in Great Britain and the US, but is also becoming extremely popular in Asia, especially in China.
