The number of tourists visiting this weekend is expected to rise to 800,000 – 100,000 more than last year.

THE NETHERLANDS – The number of tourists visiting the Netherlands this weekend is expected to rise to 800,000, says the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions (NBTC).

The forecast rise of 100,000 tourists from Easter weekend 2008 is attributed to Easter falling later this year. Last year, Easter fell in late March.

Around 65 percent of this year's tourists will come from the Netherlands' immediate neighbours, Germany and Belgium.

Around 250,000 Dutch citizens are also set to play 'tourist' in their own country at the weekend, with most of them going camping or renting a bungalow in the country.

The number of Dutch people going abroad this Easter is also expected to be smaller, with the most popular destinations being close to home: Belgium, Germany and France.
