More than 205,000 students sit final exams
Practically all students in secondary education will begin sitting their exams on Monday 16 May. About 205,250 students are sitting their final exams this year, about 105,350 in lower secondary vocational education VMBO, 58,700 in higher secondary vocational education HAVO and 41.200 in pre-university education VWO.
On Monday, Education Minister Marja van Bijsterveldt will give the official starting signal by opening an envelope with examination papers at a school in the town of Hilversum. Afterward, she will present the ‘final examinations news’ on public radio channel 3FM. Just like in previous years, 3FM will present the programme each day during the exams period.
Last year, the National Student Action Committee Landelijk Actie Komitee Scholieren received a record number of 93,000 complaints, compared to 88,000 in 2009. As in previous years, the Committee has opened a hotline where students can lodge their complaints.
The exams for the HAVO and VWO students will last until 31 May, the VMBO students will be finished a little earlier on 27 May. The first exam results will be published about two-and-a-half weeks later.
