12 December 2007
BRUSSELS – The Netherlands is doing a good job of improving employment opportunities in general, but it should be doing more to increase employment opportunities for women, older workers and the unemployed.
This is contained in a progress report on the Lisbon strategy presented by the European Commission on Tuesday. The Lisbon strategy has the aim of promoting economic growth and employment through reform.
The report also concluded that the Netherlands should pay more attention to increasing the number of hours worked in the economy and boosting public spending. It added that the Netherlands has already announced good plans for this in its reform policy.
