More juvenile delinquents in DNA database

THE NETHERLANDS - The Dutch commercial radio station BNR News reports that over the past few years an increasing number of DNA profiles of juvenile delinquents have been stored in a justice ministry database. The report is based on data from the Dutch Forensic Institute.
Since 2005, every person convicted of a crime carrying a minimum sentence of four years must submit a DNA sample. The measure is intended to enable the authorities to better monitor criminals after a serious crime.
However, the DNA profiles of juvenile delinquents sentenced to community service are often stored in the justice ministry database as well. BNR News says the number of DNA profiles of under aged persons has nearly tripled in two years time.
