AMSTERDAM – About 1,100 people suffered injuries from fireworks during the new year's celebrations this holiday season. Director of the Consumer & Safety Foundation W. Rogmans said this on Thursday. This is 150 more injuries than a year previous.
Consumer & Safety says the increase in the number of victims can primarily be attributed to accidents involving illegal professional fireworks. The injuries were less serious this year however. The number of people who had to be taken to hospital fell by 5 percent.
The foundation had warned last year that the number of injuries would most likely increase.
