More children under Dutch government guardianship

The number of children placed under guardianship doubled to 10,000 in 2007 as compared to seven years ago.

THE NETHERLANDS – The number of children being placed under the guardianship of the Child Protection Agency is on the increase, reveals Statistics Netherlands.

The number of children placed under supervision in 2007 stood at 10,000 as compared to 5,000 seven years ago.

A supervision order by the agency restricts the parents’ authority, part of which is then assumed by an official guardian.

Parents of the children are also given pedagogical support.

In total, there were 30,000 number of supervised children, half of whom were temporarily housed with guest families.
