More Dutch shopping online

In 2010, 9.3 million Dutch people between 12 and 74-years-old did their shopping online. According to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics CBS, that is a half million increase from last year.

Shopping for electronics online is most popular, with CBS figures showing a growth from 55 to 77 percent between 2005 and 2010.

Overall online purchases, ranging from goods to travel buys, decreased 23 percent. CBS attributes the slump to a number of factors: two-thirds of online shoppers say they prefer to visit stores, one-third does not see the need to shop online and some 30 percent are concerned about privacy and safety.
