Modest economic growth forecast for NL

The Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis CPB predicts a modest 1.75 percent economic growth for the Dutch economy this year compared to a forecast 1.5 percent in 2012.

The budget deficit is predicted to drop quickly from 5.2 percent in 2010 to 3.7 percent this year; 2.2 percent in 2012. The CPB says the modest growth figures will not fully make up for the loss of growth sustained during the recent recession.

Most of the economic growth is the result of increasing exports. Improved household consumption and business investments are also making a contribution to the slightly more positive figures.

The level of unemployment looks set to continue falling, down to four percent in 2012. The CPB says the growing tightness of the labour market is surprising so soon after a deep recession.
