Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst says relocating a number of ministries in fewer buildings could save 40 million euros per year.

THE HAGUE - The minister argues that the coming years will see 13.000 civil servants loose their jobs, leaving parts of buildings vacant.

The proposal is meeting with stiff resistance.

The transport ministry is relucant to move to the social planning department and the defence ministry refuses to join the interior ministry.

Transport Minister Camiel Eurlings has called for a new calculation of the estimated savings. Defence Minister Eimert van Middelkoop says his department has been too long at its present location at Plein to be uprooted.

The cabinet has yet to make a final decision.
