Ministry has 30 million of public's money

The Dutch Finance Ministry is sitting on EUR 30 million of the public's money.

The Netherlands - According to a report in the newspaper AD, the money is just waiting for unwitting members of the public who do not realise they have missed out on an inheritance or have a right to the proceeds of a bankruptcy.

If no one claims the money it usually reverts to the safekeeping of the state.

It is then kept for 20 years before being added to the public treasury. Anyone who thinks they may be entitled to part of the 30 million can visit the ministry's website
However, be warned that the website has been completely swamped since the story was published and the ministry's phones are also overloaded.

The same thing happened last year in the quiet season for news when the popular website GeenStijl published essentially the same story.
