THE NETHERLANDS - The 29th Scheveningen International Fireworks Festival has been won by Mexico.

Organisers said out of the six countries who took part in the competition, the Mexican display came in first with their extremely unusual blend of colours.

The Netherlands were favourites, but had to settle for fourth place in the end.

The spectacular displays, which could be viewed from the pier in Scheveningen, attracted no less than 300,000 visitors, 50,000 more than in 2007, when the Netherlands came first.
