Metro drill: M'adam, Molly or Zuidelijntje?
In the coming eight days Amsterdam residents will be able to choose one of three names for the drilling machine that is to drill the southern section of the North-South underground line: M'adam, Molly or Zuidelijntje.
The public can express their preference through internet, Amsterdam municipality says. A professional jury picked the three names from among 13 submitted by primary schools. The winning name will be revealed in late April, when the drilling machine will be christened.
The two machines that dug the tunnels from Central Station to Rokin were given the names of Noortje and Gravin Countess. The machine yet to be baptised will work its way from the Scheldeplein to Rokin.
If everything goes according to plan, the metro line that will connect Amsterdam North with the Southern Axis wil be completed in 2017. So far, the project has experienced serious delays and is far over budget.
