AMSTERDAM — The Dutch meteorological agency KNMI has warned of possible snow showers and winds of up to 110 kilometres an hour on Thursday night and Friday morning.

KNMI's experts predicted that the Netherlands was in for a rough night due tostorm showers. The wind strength may reach Gale Force 9 on the west coast, and while the force will lessen more inland, the gusts may be extra treacherous.

"The KNMI estimates there is a 70 percent chance that these very strong wind gusts will lead to the need to issue a weather alert," the agency said. It issued an "advance warning" to an official alert by 3.30pm on Thursday.

Motorists will have to cope with the combination of wind gusts, heavy rain or snow on Friday morning.
