Mecca pilgrims welcome angers Freedom Party

Freedom Party MP Hero Brinkman says he is angry about the fact that Amsterdam Schiphol Airport pays special attention to Muslim pilgrims returning from Mecca. The airport has a small room where the pilgrims are welcomed with mint tea and sweets.

Brinkman wants to know whether Christian pilgrims returning from Lourdes receive the same kind of welcome. He said he saw a connection with what he felt was a lack of Christmas trees at the Amsterdam airport.

A Schiphol spokesperson said there is not much Christmas decoration at the airport yet because the Sinterklaas feast St Nicholas is still ahead of us, “but as soon as he has gone back to Spain, we’ll go all out with the Christmas decorations.”

The airport emphasised that it is a tradition of many years to welcome pilgrims returning home from Mecca “out of a spirit of good hospitality.”

This is a good gesture and good marketing. The airport is probably a business and runs its own business and i am sure they get a lot of business out. And Mr Friesland Man, obviously you dont know anything about muslim religion apart from what you hear in the news by media, which always gives news that is sellable to public. Some dutch people like you make the rest of us look bad.

If the muslims get tea and sweets coming back from a pilgrimage one can only imagine the goodies in store when they come back from a stoning, beheading or a female gential circumcision! Party down!!

I wish the politicians would just be quiet. This is good marketing on the part of Schiphol. You have a large number of travelers going to / from one destination. It shows humanity and sensitivity. As for Christmas Trees, the Easter Bunny, and the World Cup; I am sure Schiphol will respond with suitable marketing to travelers to these events too !!!
