THE HAGUE - Two top Dutch football matches were cancelled on Saturday amid fears of violence from hooligans in the wake of a police strike.

The mayors of Amsterdam and Rotterdam called off the Ajax Amsterdam vs. PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord Rotterdam vs. AZ Alkmaar games because they feared fan trouble due to an insufficient police presence at the events.

The decision came after a judge ruled late Friday that the two cities could not stop the police protest over a pay rise.
