Massive fight in Den Bosch

28 August 2007

DEN BOSCH – Two large groups of about 30 youths each were involved in a fight in Den Bosch late on Monday night. Shots were also fired during the fight in the De Hambaken neighbourhood, police reported in the early hours of Tuesday.

As far as is known, only one youth has been injured. He was brought to hospital and treated for a head wound. The young man was then arrested, says a spokesperson. Police are not releasing his identity yet. He is the only suspect arrested so far.

Eye witnesses told police that the groups first started fighting at about 11 pm Monday night. It was not until after a second burst of violence that the police received a number of reports.

When officers arrived in the neighbourhood at about midnight the fight was over and those involved had disappeared. "It was short and intense," said the spokesperson.

Sticks, glass and several bullet casings were found on the street. Local residents told the police that shots had been fired. The police are assuming that no one was hurt by the bullets.

Police are still in the dark as to the reason behind the fight.
