Texel - On the Dutch island of Texel, more than 1000 people have paddled together in the sea.

The mass paddle is part of the island’s annual Body and Brain Festival.

The organiser had provided chairs for participants, but many people brought their own.

Then, for ten minutes, they all sat at the edge of the sea, side by side, with the water over their ankles. They counted off the final seconds in unison.

The mass paddle began in 2007. Each year it attracts more and more participants.
