GRONINGEN – The Martini tower in Groningen will reopen to the public once again on 9 June. The operations manager of the building, Marketing Groningen, announced this on Tuesday.

The Martini tower has been closed since last October because three people had jumped from the spire in three years' time.

In order to prevent such incidents in future, the municipality is going to put fencing along the southern part of the first walkway around the tower, which has a view over the Grote Markt. The rest of the walkway area will be closed off.

More than 40,000 tourists visit the Martini tower each year to admire the views from its observation areas.
