BRUSSELS – Investigators from the Competition Board conducted searches at Colruyt, Delhaize and Carrefour on Monday. The action is part of an investigation into price-fixing on health and beauty aids and household articles.

Officials from the Belgian competition authority raided the buildings of a number of large distribution companies at about 9.30 am yesterday, including supermarket chains Colruyt, Delhaize and Carrefour.

The investigators were looking for evidence of possible agreements to raise prices on perfume, hygiene products, and other household items. Not only the large stores were targeted, but also large distributors and suppliers of these kinds of products.

Geneviève Bryunseels, spokesperson for Carrefour, confirmed that officials asked for documents and computers. "We don't know what the investigation is about, so we cannot comment any further," she told the Bloomberg press agency on Monday.
