Marines accidentally shoot at fishermen

1 February 2007, AMSTERDAM – A fishing boot in Curacao was hit by shots fired by the Dutch marine corps on Tuesday. The marines were holding an exercise at a special shooting range bordering on the sea.

AMSTERDAM – A fishing boot in Curacao was hit by shots fired by the Dutch marine corps on Tuesday. The marines were holding an exercise at a special shooting range bordering on the sea.

No one was injured but the boat of two local fishermen was damaged.

The military police has started an investigation. A spokesperson said that fishermen are usually warned when an exercise is taking place.

The marines has said it regrets the incident. It is still unclear what went wrong.
