31 July 2007, VIENNA (AP) - Austrian police said Tuesday they arrested 34 people and seized marijuana with a street value of EUR 90,000 in a series of raids on a ring suspected of smuggling the drugs from the Netherlands to Austria.

VIENNA (AP) - Austrian police said Tuesday they arrested 34 people and seized marijuana with a street value of EUR 90,000 in a series of raids on a ring suspected of smuggling the drugs from the Netherlands to Austria.

Police said they raided 36 houses and found evidence linking the gang to a number of burglaries in Austria. Investigators said in a statement that the smuggling operation involved truck drivers hiding the marijuana in their vehicles.

The suspects' nationalities were not released.

Authorities say the Netherlands is a major source of marijuana, Ecstasy and other narcotics smuggled into Austria each year.
