Dutch cyclist and Olympic Champion Marianne Vos has won the World Cyclo-Cross Championship in St Wendel Germany with surprising ease. It is the third time she has won the title in a row and the fourth time in her career.

Things were not looking good for the title defender at the beginning of the race when she fell on the first climb, but she soon managed to get back into the leading group. She fell a few times in the same spot. But the hard course was better suited to Vos than to her rival American Katie Compton who is better in the mud.

Half way through the race Vos managed to keep up when Compton and Czech Katerina Nash broke away from the group and took the lead. In the final round Vos went on the attack and went on to win the race.

The petite 23-year-old now equals German record holder Hanka Kupfernagel with four titles. In 2012 the all-round biker hopes to represent the Dutch in the omnium event at the Olympic Games.
