Marianne Vos wins Emakumeen Bira

Dutch cyclist Marianne Vos on Sunday won the Spanish stage race Emakumeen Bira. In the overall rankings, the Dutch cyclist stayed ahead of her Swedish competitor Emma Johansson, who came second, and the German cyclist Judith Arndt, who came third.

Vos did not just stand her ground in the final stage; she even won the race to Orduna. Marianne Vos has had a very successful week

in Spain. Earlier, she won the world cup race GP Ciudad de Valladolid and the one-day race Durango-Durango. In the Emakumeen Bira she won three of the five stages.

Team leader Jeroen Blijlevens was impressed. “Marianne is incredibly strong right now, but the team also deserves a compliment. They controlled the race.’’ Marriane Vos was also pleased. “I’m stronger than ever, I found out straight away in the first road races.”
