AMSTERDAM – 33 people were taken to hospital during the Dam-to-Dam walk on Sunday, most of them for overheating. Seven had to be admitted to hospital, five to the intensive care unit.

A spokesperson for the regional health authority (GGD) in Amsterdam announced this on Monday.

The spokesperson said that admission to the intensive care unit was customary for patients showing signs of overheating and dehydration. They can then be kept under constant observation.

The Dam-to-Dam walk is a 16-km walk from Amsterdam to Zaandam.
