AMSTERDAM — Police have arrested alleged drug dealer Rob A as inquiries continue into the gangland-style slaying in Amsterdam earlier this year of real estate magnate Bertus Luske.
The suspect, also known as "the Cigar", was arrested on Thursday and police suspect he has much more information to reveal about the August murder, newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Saturday.
Luske was shot and killed in front of his wife and daughter as they were leaving the Frankendael restaurant in Amsterdam. He owned several properties in the Dutch capital, but was also suspected of having criminal links.
Police sources said detectives questioned A about the murder on Thursday and it is alleged he had a gun hidden inside his car. The suspect was arrested and remanded in custody on Friday.
Immediately after the murder, suspicions were focused at the drawn-out conflict between Luske, real estate magnate Lesly Bamberger of the Kroonenberg Groep and Rob A over the disputed sale of the Bayside Beach Club, an entertainment venue in Amsterdam.
The Dutch capital has been the scene of a series of gangland slayings in recent years, the most notorious of which was the murder of Freddie Heineken kidnapper Cor van Hout in January.
