AMSTERDAM – The man who was seriously injured on Tuesday when his Peugeot exploded on the A13 has been identified as 43-year-old resident of The Hague Jerry Rigters, an Antillean drug dealer, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.
Rigters, a former bodybuilder, reportedly has many enemies because he has been robbing drugs from other drug dealers for years and does not shy away from using violence in the process, the paper writes.
The AD reports that this was not the first attempt on Rigters' life, but rather the fourth since 1999.
On 18 August last year he escaped death when he failed to show up at his café The Untouchables in The Hague. Two patrons were shot by a hired killer, one of the victims died.
Police do not want to release much information about the case. They are not ruling out that an explosive may have been planted in the vehicle.
The national forensic investigation team carried out an investigation on Tuesday. The exit on the A13 where the explosion occurred was closed off until early evening.
