AMSTERDAM — A 31-year-old man who brought his 18-month-old daughter to McDonald's after murdering his wife was sentenced on Friday.
The victim, 29, was five months pregnant on 16 December last year when she was suffocated in the family home in Zaandam.
The court in Haarlem imposed a 16-year term on S.K, 31, from Zaandam for the murder of his wife. Amsterdam man R.N., 31, received a similar sentence for his part in the crime. The woman's body was discovered on the stairs in the home. She had been suffocated.
The court heard that after he killed his wife, K. brought his 18-month-old daughter to McDonald's for a 'Happy Meal'.
The prosecution said K. arranged his wife's murder due to tensions within his family arising from her sacking from a job in a firm run by the defendant's brother.
The second defendant denied he was involved in the murder. He claimed that the intention was to fake a robbery at the home to defraud an insurance company.
