AMSTERDAM — A 30-year-old Venlo man was killed on impact in a bizarre accident on Sunday night when his car sailed 20m through the air before colliding with a roadway viaduct.
Police said on Monday the accident occurred in the German town of Bracht, located near the eastern Dutch border and the Limburg town of Swalmen, news agency ANP reported.
The man lost control of his speeding vehicle on the B221, resulting in it flying past a guard rail on a steep incline and colliding 20m away on a viaduct over a lower-situated road. The car then fell 6m and exploded in flames.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Veenendaal man was lucky to survive a 13m fall on Saturday night, having fallen from bridge near Kesteren and Rhenen.
Police were called to the scene and found a group of boys and girls standing around the man, claiming they had gathered earlier under the bridge before suddenly noticing the 20-year-old victim was missing.
The youths found their friend lying and groaning in a nearby field and police suspect the man fell from the Rijnbrug. He did not suffer life threatening injuries.
