A 35-year-old used information and photographs obtained from social networking sites on the internet to blackmail teenage girls’ parents.

Leiden – A 35-year-old man has been arrested for blackmailing over 30 parents of teenage girls.

The man from Leiden allegedly collected photographs and information about the girls from social networking sites such as Facebook and Hyves and used them to blackmail their parents.

The man who lied to the girls’ parents and said he had compromising photos of their daughters is also accused of posing as a photographer or owner of a photographic studio. He claimed the girls had performed sexual acts for the camera and even told some parents their daughters had been raped by third parties.

The man has also demanded payment from some parents to not upload the photographs on the internet.

The police received more than 30 complaints about the bogus photographer.

While the man did not actually possess any indecent photographs of the girl, the public prosecutor's office intends to charge him with blackmail and defamation.

The man has been released to await trial.
