AMSTERDAM — Police arrested a man, 46, in the south-eastern town of Geleen on Monday in connection with a botched gangland hit in earlier this year.

The suspect allegedly played an active role in the gun attack at Kraaiven industrial estate on 29 January. A man, from the town of Dongen, was sitting in a car when someone opened fire on him with an automatic weapon. Although struck twice, the victim managed to escape and drive to a hospital.

Detectives investigating the attack raided several buildings in Geleen, Houthem, Slek (Echt) and Ittervoort on Monday. Weapons and other items were seized.

Monday's arrest brings to 11 the number of people held by the investigation team. An Ecstasy laboratory was dismantled by the team at Easter.
