Major violence broke out between pro- and anti-Mubarak protesters in Cairo's central Tahrir Square on Wednesday, with demonstrators throwing stones at each other as soldiers atop tanks looked on.

Witnesses on the square say that army lines have been breached by pro-Mubarak demonstrators. In stark contrast to the cheerful atmosphere of Tuesday, objects are being thrown and scuffles between pro- and anti-Mubarak demonstrators are going on.

According to Reuters' agency 10 people were injured.
