HAARLEM – The major disaster exercise in the Kennemerland security region ran smoothly on Thursday evening.

During the exercise the emergency services in the region had to deal with a hypothetical situation in which an aeroplane that had lost an engine crashed in the Transvaal neighbourhood in Haarlem.

A spokesperson for the Security region Kennemerland says there was a great deal of activity in the area during the situation, but no ambulances or police cars with sirens were spotted.

The disaster exercise was not for the operational services, but for the municipal leaders and heads of the emergency services.

The simulation was stopped a number of times to deal with actual incidents in the area. The success of the disaster exercise will become clear in the coming weeks.
