Maduro out for up to four months
Dutch international Hedwiges Maduro expects to be out of action for up to four months due to a serious ankle injury sustained last week.
“Normally, recovering from an injury like this would take about two months, but it could well take three months or even four,” he told NOS domestic radio. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”
Maduro was called up to the Holland squad last week for their final EURO 2012 qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden. During a training session, the 26-year-old Valencia defender tore two ankle ligaments and failed to take part in either game. On Tuesday, he underwent a successful operation in Amsterdam.
Being four months out means Maduro will miss Holland’s friendlies against Switzerland and Germany next month. He won’t be able to play the next four UEFA Champions League group matches for his club either. Valencia are in Group E with KRC Genk from Belgium, Chelsea FC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
