Mad cow outbreak in Drenthe
An eight-year-old cow falls victim to the virus and is the first reported case in The Netherlands this year.21 May 2008
DRENTHE – The mad cow disease has been discovered on a farm in Drenthe.
After an eight-year-old cow fell ill at the beginning of May and had difficulty walking, she was destroyed and an autopsy conducted.
The autopsy revealed the cow was infected with the BSE virus. Seven other cows have been destroyed as a precautionary measure.
The infection is the 85th case in The Netherlands since 1997 and the first in 2008.
