MTV announces Rotterdam as the host city of the '2016 MTV EMAs'
It’s official: the 2016 MTV EMAs will take place in Rotterdam at the Ahoy! Stadium on 6 November 2016.
The network announced today that Rotterdam, the historic port city, will be the host city of the '2016 MTV EMAs', one of the biggest global music events of the year that celebrates the hottest artists from around the world. It will be the second time that MTV’s premier international awards show will be held in Rotterdam and the third time in the Netherlands.
Announced just before the 2015 MTV EMAs in Milan, the '2016 MTV EMAs' will broadcast live Sunday, 6 November at 9pm CET from the newly renovated Ahoy Arena.
“We’re very excited to partner with the city of Rotterdam, with its rich history, exceptional infrastructure and passionate music fans, it’s an ideal location for the show,” said Bruce Gillmer from Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). “Each year the MTV EMAs celebrate the biggest names in music from around the globe and showcase unbelievable performances from today’s most exciting acts. We’re confident that Rotterdam and state of the art Ahoy Arena, will be the perfect setting for what will be a spectacular 2016 MTV EMAs.”
“I am thrilled to see the MTV EMAs return to the Netherlands,” commented Maurice Hols, general manager of VIMN Benelux. “The Netherlands played host to the MTV EMAs in 1997 at the Ahoy Arena, and then again in 2013 in Amsterdam. Young people in Holland have demonstrated again and again that they ‘are MTV’."
Vice Mayor of Rotterdam, Pex Langenberg added, ”We are honoured that Rotterdam has been selected to host the 2016 MTV EMAs. The MTV awards and Rotterdam are a perfect match as 'young City’ is one of the main themes of Rotterdam’s events policy. Hosting this great event will also allow Rotterdam to showcase itself as an exciting festival city.”
