MPs: no to cheaper insurance for organ donors
Dutch MPs slam discounts offered by four major health insurance providers and say the decision of donating your organs should not be determined by financial considerations.2 December 2008
THE HAGUE – Dutch MPs are not happy about an insurance discount scheme to attract organ donors.
Four major health insurance providers are offering discounts on their insurance premiums if their customers register as organ donors. They hope to attract tens of thousands of new donors and help solve the chronic shortage in the Netherlands.
The Christian Democrats, the Socialists and the conservative VVD all opposed to the move. They say financial considerations should not play a part in the decision of whether or not to donate your organs.
