THE HAGUE – A number of MPs are sceptical about the plan to grant a work permit to high flyers from outside the EU. The so-called blue card should prevent the European Union from losing the battle for knowledge workers from other continents, State Secretary for Justice Nebahat Albayrak said on Wednesday at a meeting with parliament.

The SP, VVD and the PVV in particular have reservations. Knowledge migrants, who have entered the EU on a blue card may also work in other EU countries after two years. "You are then dependent on the selection criteria of another country," MP Atzo Nicolai (VVD) said.

The European Union will however set joint criteria for the blue card in the future, according to Albayrak.
