AMSTERDAM – Two out of three consumers are glad to have the chance to shop on a Sunday, but only one in five think the shops should be open every Sunday.

This was the main finding of research commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs prior to the Cabinet’s evaluation of the 1996 law on shop opening hours due this coming Spring.

Many councils say they want more Sundays for shopping on and are prepared to declare part of even all their districts ‘tourist areas’.

In doing so though, they put pressure on neighbouring councils to follow suit.
