Lost and confused on Dutch govt websites
About 40% of visitors to government sites are unable to find the information they need, says survey.9 April 2008
De Telegraaf reports that an investigation conducted by a Dutch university has revealed that visitors to Dutch government websites get "hopelessly lost on the government digital highways".
The investigation into the user-friendliness of the sites revealed that just 62 percent of people managed to find the information they wanted on a government website.
Trouw also covers the story, and writes that respondents said Google was a far better aid than the government websites themselves.
Remarkably enough, the investigation also discovered that young people had just as much trouble finding the information they needed as the elderly. The investigation concluded that government websites are far too complicated.
