A lorry driver has caused havoc in the Schiphol tunnel near the Netherlands' main international airport.

AMSTERDAM—The driver was transporting a crane which was 30 centimetres too high for the tunnel. As a result, 6 motorway matrix signs, 40 lights and four loudspeakers were destroyed.

The lorry driver had informed the authorities about the load, but he failed to follow an alternative route. The police have fined him. Two lanes in the tunnel had to be closed for several hours to allow a clear up operation to take place.
