Lobby group asks court to end bus strike
Rover plans to seek an injunction to force an end to the bus strike which is causing the public much inconvenience.9 June 2008
THE NETHERLANDS - Rover, the organisation representing users of Dutch public transport, plans to seek an injunction at the beginning of this week to force an end to the bus strike.
The organisation believes the bus drivers’ strike which entered its sixth day on Friday was causing too many people much inconvenience.
Rover also says it is unacceptable that the unions continue to reject mediation. It is seeking the backing of other organisations, such as provincial governments and groups for the elderly.
The bus drivers held a mass rally in Utrecht on Thursday. Negotiations between trade unions and employers on new pay and conditions have been stalled since April.
The drivers began a national strike last Sunday, having spent months staging less drastic industrial action.
