AMSTERDAM – The 21-year-old woman who died this week after liposuction treatment at a private clinic in Utrecht weighed 54 kilos, her boyfriend told De Telegraaf.
Her boyfriend says the woman was a "healthy, active girl, who took part in sports five times a week."
The Amsterdam woman was not happy with her appearance however and, inspired by television programmes like "Extreme Make Over" and "Make Me Beautiful", she decided to have cosmetic surgery on her breasts and liposuction.
The woman underwent surgery at the private Biltstraat Medical Centre in Utrecht, though the operation itself was performed by a doctor from Aestheticare, a company that leased operating facilities from the clinic.
The Healthcare Inspectorate has advised Aestheticare not to perform any operations until the investigation into the matter has been concluded.
The cause of death is still not clear. Both the Healthcare Inspectorate and the public prosecution department are investigating whether any errors were made. The inspectorate says its investigation could take several weeks.
Aestheticare has locations throughout the country. It was not available for comment on Friday afternoon.
