A majority in Dutch parliament wants parents to be given the right to decide on the nationality of their children.

THE NETHERLANDS – A majority in parliament wants parents to be given the right to decide on the nationality of their children.

The Christian Democratic CDA and the Labour Party have introduced a bill to this effect.

At present, some parents of Moroccan children choose to register their children only as Dutch citizens, but these children are automatically registered as Moroccan nationals with the Moroccan embassy by local city councils.

This could lead to problems when children are called up for compulsory military service in another country.
