Employment for temporary workers decreased by five percent in the first four weeks of this year.

Umbrella organisation ABU said on Tuesday that turnover for the temp sector had decreased by three percent compared to a year before.

The number of hours worked by temps went down across the board. The administrative sector saw a one percent decrease, with seven percent in manufacturing and two percent fewer temp hours in the technical sector, while healthcare saw a 15 percent reduction.

Temp agencies kept turnover at the same level as last year in the administrative and technical sectors, but turnover in manufacturing dropped by six percent and in health care by as much as 13 percent.
