VOORBURG – Figures published on Wednesday by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) indicate that less than half (44 percent) of residents of greater Amsterdam were born in the capital. A third of city centre residents were born in the city.

The CBS reports that the highest concentrations of native Amsterdammers still living in the area are to be found in the garden villages of Oostzaan, Nieuwendam and Buiksloot, in particular, where 80 percent of the residents were born in the capital.
