Leicester Tigers at the BSN – A Roaring Success…

During the October half term break, the BSN Senior School in Voorschoten played host to a team of coaches from the Leicester Tigers Rugby Coaching Academy.

The Leicester Tigers are one of the best teams in Europe and this was the first time their coaching team had run a course outside the UK.

The Tigers were invited by the BSN Rugby Club to run a five day course for players from the BSN Rugby Club as well as several other local clubs including AAC from Amsterdam and Diok from Leiden.

Each player received a full week's training with around five hours of rugby each day. The coaching covered every aspect of rugby training including skills, technique and body conditioning.  The players also learnt about nutrition and core fitness techniques to help with every aspect of their game.

The Tigers Coaching Course became a reality following the links forged by the BSN Rugby Team during their tour to the Leicester area in April 2010 when they took part in a match day training session with The Tigers.

Matt Williams, The Tigers Senior Rugby Development Officer tells us: “The set up here at The BSN is the best we have come across and it was great to have so many friends, family and coaches here throughout the day to show interest in what was going on.  We would definitely come back if we were invited!”

The BSN’s Rugby Coaching Co-ordinator, Matt Roper was the driving force behind the course becoming a reality and he says; “We could not have done this for our players without the full support of The British School in The Netherlands, for which we are extremely grateful – their groundsmen, concierges and catering team were fantastic and the pitches and facilities were first class.”

The BSN Rugby Club is a member of the Nederlandse Rugby Bond where they play other Dutch teams across the length and breadth of the country.  The BSN Rugby Club are the current holders of the Minis (U-13) Dutch National Championship title and were finalists in last season’s Cubs (U-15) championship.
