AMSTERDAM – Former Labour PvdA minister Jan Pronk thinks there is a crisis in leadership in his party at the moment. Now that PvdA leader Wouter Bos is deputy prime minister and minister of finance, he can no longer stand up for the PvdA's position.

Pronk voiced this criticism on a Radio 1 programme on VPRO this morning. The PvdA has become "second fiddle" to the Christian democrat CDA by taking part in the new government, Pronk said.

Pronk predicts that the Socialist Party SP will benefit from this and grow larger than the Labour party. The PvdA is failing to address what the "underside" of society needs, Pronk said.

"Bos gives the impression that he doesn't know. That comes across very badly of course, people think we have a leader who himself doesn't know what's best."
